Active Ingredients
Hydroxypinacolone retinoate – HPR 0.2%
An advanced and proven effective form of vitamin A, synthesized from retinoic acid and a small molecule pinacol. Retinoids (Retinol, Retinaldehyde, Retinyl esters) undergo several metabolic transformations upon application, entering our skin until they reach their biologically active form – retinoic acid. Regardless of the retinoid applied, it must be converted to retinoic acid to be absorbed by the skin. HPR is an all-trans direct retinoic acid ester and therefore bypasses the conversion steps required by other retinoids. This ingredient immediately activates its action, making it more effective and less aggressive to the skin.
Main Advantages of HPR
- Highly effective – provides fast results as it acts directly, without the need to metabolize into retinoic acid.
- Gentle and tolerant – does not cause irritation, redness, or sensitivity, making it suitable for all skin types.
- Stable – HPR maintains its concentration after opening and remains effective for a long time.
- Photosensitivity – Research indicates that HPR makes the skin much less sensitive to sunlight than standard retinoids. However, sun protection remains mandatory during use.
- No adaptation period – unlike standard retinoids, HPR does not irritate the skin and can be introduced into the routine without the need for additional adaptation time.
- Safety Profile – While no cosmetic ingredient is entirely risk-free, HPR has an excellent safety profile, generally well tolerated with a lower likelihood of severe side effects, making it an attractive option for those seeking retinoid benefits without associated risks.
- Innovation – HPR represents a breakthrough in skincare science, with its unique chemical structure and mechanism of action showcasing advancements in retinoid research and development, offering promising possibilities for the future of skincare.
